Because of Brady

Words from Carmelita “Butter” Howard
I get emotional whenever I think about the Brady Faith Center!
Father Brady helped my mom Carmelita Boatwright through a lot of crises. People at Brady have always been a support to our family. Throughout the crisis of my daughter being chronically sick, hospitalized and dying, Father John and Emily were there for her! And the whole Brady team is there for my grandchildren and me.
For me, Brady is a family atmosphere that is so good for me. Sunday worship helps me to be thankful, to find good through all things and to give myself to the Lord. I’ve been through quite a bit in life. Brady is a community I go to for friendship, peace, to understand our world, and to lay my troubles and worries down on the altar table – to let go and let God. In faith, I know that despite the storms of my life, the sun is going to shine and there will be a rainbow. Sometimes I don’t think my grandson Ricky is listening and paying attention in church. Then we get home and he starts singing one of the songs from mass. He’s singing it because he’s feeling it in his heart. Because of Brady, wherever he goes in life, he will know he’s never alone.
Brady’s Vacation Bible School means everything to my grandchildren and to me. It gives them a positive direction in life and helps them meet new friends. They learn so much from the leaders like respect for other people and how to be patient with others by beginning to understand where others are coming from. My grandchildren love going to VBS so much that whenever they are sick, they cry because they can’t go. Having youth programs at Brady allows parents and grandparents like me to go to work knowing that our children are in the best of care, in hands we can trust.
I wish I could give back more to Brady either through volunteering or monetary donations – I think about this all the time. For now, I just have to settle for attending.
